Why Local Garden Center Knowledge Still Matters

When you’re choosing a tree, shrub, or perennial, you’re not just buying a plant. You’re making a decision that could shape your landscape for years to come.

That’s why we were especially pleased to see a recent Google review from Redwood Nursery customer Katherine Every. She captured something that has always been important to us: helping customers choose plants that will succeed in their landscapes.

Katherine wrote:

“The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they take the time to sell you the right plant/tree.”

She went on to mention the kinds of questions our team helps customers think through — how much sun a plant needs, potential pest concerns, and perhaps most importantly, how large that tree or shrub will eventually become.

Those details matter. A plant that looks perfect sitting in a nursery container may not be the right choice for a particular location five or ten years from now. Understanding mature size, growing conditions, drainage, sunlight, maintenance needs, and the surrounding landscape can make the difference between simply buying a plant and making a good long-term investment.

And When We Don’t Know, We Find Someone Who Does

One part of Katherine’s review particularly stood out to us:

“If a staff member doesn’t know the answer to a question, they find the staff that does know.”

We think that’s an important part of what a good independent garden center should provide.

Gardening comes with questions, and nobody knows everything. What matters is having experienced people and resources available to help find the right answer.

A Landscape Built with Redwood

Katherine also shared something we’re particularly proud of:

“All of the landscaping plants in my yard are from Redwood.”

For a local, family-owned nursery, there may be no better compliment. We want to be more than the place you visit for one plant. We want to be a resource you can return to as your garden grows, your landscape changes, and new ideas take shape.

Her final advice was simple:

“Skip the BigBox, or Grocery store and buy from a local shop.”

We appreciate that recommendation — and every customer who chooses to shop locally.
